Very Valentino

Did you know… Valentino took to international fame when he was 30 and has been a renowned couture brand for over half a century?

Valentino: Master of Couture at Somerset House is the latest fashion exhibition in town and it brought to London the best of the best of his collections and tells of a beautiful story how Valentino established his fashion empire, one which represented every fineness, perfection and timeless beauty.

The show featured original event invites by Valentino, letters from admiring peers and photographs of stars and socialites in his pieces and those of Valentino himself over the years. A highlight is walking into a ‘catwalk’ tunnel, where 137 original Valentino pieces are showcased, a down the memory lane experience allowing us to travel back in time and examine the fine dresses and matching outfits at close distance. This included many beautiful evening pieces, well suited for royals including Princess Margaret, socialites such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and famous celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Julia Roberts and Anne Hathaway. We also received a virtual tour of Valentino’s online museum available here.

The greatest piece on show was the wedding dress of Princess Marie Chantal of Greece in 1995, which was produced by 25 seamstresses and took four months to complete.

The exhibition is on till 3 March 2013. For anyone with the slightest interest in fashion or in all things beautiful, it’s a definite must-go!

“Believe in what you do, even if you are not understood.”

“Do not change too much. Evolution not revolution.”
